Of square form, the lid and sides inlaid with fine micro-mosaic in bone, ebony, pewter, and dyed bone, arranged in dense triangular tessellations with stepped borders. The interior is lined with Lebanon cedar and fitted with four fixed compartments, concealed beneath a removable inner lid set with four pewter-inlaid rosettes and a central pewter ring-pull.

Acquired as part of a group of similar boxes, one of which bears a period pencil inscription reading: “Constantin / received / Syria / 10 June 1882”.
