Of rectangular form, the plain-boarded lid with projecting moulded edge above a single-plank front fitted with a rectangular iron lock plate, the shaped keyhole escutcheon of spade form, secured throughout with hand-cut rose-head nails. The lid interior reinforced with two horizontal iron straps and retaining the original butterfly hinges and bolt mechanism.

The timber, European elm throughout, displays the characteristic flowing landscape figuring of the species and a fine untouched patina consistent with age. The plain, uncarved exterior and robust iron furniture are consistent with Welsh vernacular work of the period.

The stepped plinth base and bracket feet appear to be a later addition in oak, sympathetic in character and well-integrated.

In good condition throughout, retaining all original ironwork. The patina is unrestored.
