A decorative pair of Louis XVI style tole lamps, finished in a rich emerald green and hand-decorated throughout with gilt laurel swags, musical trophies and neoclassical ornament. Retaining their original Arrowsmith labels to the undersides, these elegant column-form lamps were produced for the American interiors market and embody the enduring appeal of French eighteenth-century design.
 
Each lamp is formed as a classical column rising from a square plinth, the bases adorned with finely painted trophies of music including lutes, horns and ribbon-tied foliage. The deep green ground is enriched with hand-painted gilding, now mellowed with age and wear, lending the pair a warmth and character often absent from later decorative reproductions.
 
Equally suited to a drawing room, library, bedroom or music room, they offer a refined decorative presence whether illuminated or displayed as sculptural objects in their own right.
 
Retaining later American electrical fittings. Sold as decorative items requiring rewiring and testing prior to use.
