A wonderfully pretty vintage edition of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, published by Nelson Doubleday, Inc., Garden City, New York.
The binding is particularly charming, with its two-tone raspberry pink and soft blush boards, gilt title and decorative detailing. It has exactly the sort of faded, well-read appearance we love in an old book. There is visible rubbing and wear around the spine and extremities, giving it the character of a copy that has already lived a life.
Few novels feel quite so suited to being rediscovered over Christmas as Pride and Prejudice. This would make a lovely fireside read, a thoughtful gift for an Austen devotee, or simply a beautiful old volume to leave on a bedside table.
