Made entirely by hand at Terrou Studio, our Christmas stockings are conceived as future heirlooms. The sort of piece that comes down from the attic every December, gradually becoming part of the fabric of a family Christmas and, one day, perhaps being hung by another generation.

The outer is cut from an exceptionally soft, handwoven cotton gingham in warm mocha brown and ecru. Woven in India from 100% cotton, its tiny 3mm check has an old-fashioned simplicity to it, reminiscent of traditional utility cloths and the small-scale checks found in historic domestic textiles. The handloom process gives the fabric a softness and subtle irregularity that machine-made cloth cannot quite replicate, with gentle variations in the weave forming part of its character.

We have paired it with a plain natural calico cuff, keeping the design deliberately simple and allowing the rich chocolate tones and diminutive check of the gingham to take centre stage. The stocking is fully lined and softly padded using natural batting, giving it a beautifully substantial feel in the hand while retaining the softness and tactility of the cloth.

Every element is cut, constructed and finished individually in our studio using 100% natural materials, right down to the internal batting. There are no synthetic fabrics or mass-produced blanks here. Each stocking takes time to make, with particular attention paid to the details you may only notice when you hold it: the full lining, softly padded construction, character of the handwoven cloth and carefully finished cuff.

We are making these in very limited numbers, partly because of the time involved in producing each one and partly because many of the fabrics we use are available only in small quantities. Once a particular cloth is gone, it may not return.

Made slowly, made to last, and intended to gather its own memories over many Christmases.
