A particularly lovely vintage edition of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, published by Thomas Nelson & Sons and illustrated by C. E. Brock.
Bound in rich cobalt-blue cloth with gilt lettering to the spine, this copy retains its original blue slipcase, a wonderful survival and one that makes the book feel especially suited to gifting. Inside are Brock’s illustrations, including the characterful frontispiece shown here.
There is something about Wuthering Heights that seems made for winter reading. Wild weather, old houses and one of the most enduringly atmospheric novels in English literature. This is the sort of edition we love finding for the Christmas House. Beautiful enough to leave out, but still very much a book to be read.
The book itself presents very nicely, with some age-related spotting and toning to the pages and minor wear to the binding. The original slipcase has considerably more wear, with rubbing and losses around the edges and corners, but has done its job remarkably well in protecting the volume within.
