A wonderfully decorative vintage edition of H. G. Wells’ The Invisible Man, bound in vivid blue cloth with gilt lettering and ornament to the front board.
First published in 1897, The Invisible Man remains one of Wells’ best-known works, following the scientist Griffin and the disastrous consequences of his experiments with invisibility. This later edition was issued as part of The Novel Library by The London Book Co. Ltd., with Wm. Collins Sons & Co. Ltd. named as publisher on the title page.
We particularly love the binding on this copy. The brilliant blue cloth and scrolling gilt decoration give it a strong presence on a shelf, while the slightly faded spine and time-softened pages have all the character we look for in an old book. A lovely gift for a reader of classic literature, or an atmospheric addition to a stack of vintage books by the fireside.
