A beautiful pair of vintage 9ct gold and smoky quartz stud earrings, each set with a generous round faceted smoky quartz in a simple claw setting.
The stones have that wonderfully distinctive smoky quartz colour, a deep translucent brown that shifts from warm cognac and tobacco tones to an almost inky chocolate as the light changes. The open faceting gives them plenty of life, with flashes of light appearing across the surface as they move.
Each stone is held within a warm 9ct gold setting with restrained claws, allowing the smoky quartz to remain very much the focus. Viewed from the side, the substantial gold settings have a pleasing vintage construction and sit neatly against the ear.
They are an exceptionally wearable pair. Large enough to have real presence, but simple enough for everyday, they have the warmth and richness that makes vintage gold jewellery so appealing. The earthy depth of the smoky quartz is especially lovely against the yellow gold.
